Green Roof Systems
Dominion Truss, Inc.Oregon Truss supplies custom-designed wood trusses for both intensive and extensive green roof systems (also called a "vegetated roof").
We can supply trusses for your commercial, industrial or municipal green roof system from Seattle to Sacramento.
If you are planning a green roof system for a new building, consider the advantages of using our wood truss system instead of steel:
Aesthetics
In many applications where steel trusses are used, the trusses are left exposed to view. Painted or unpainted, wood trusses are aesthetically more comfortable than steel.
Price

For the past couple of years steel prices have been rapidly climbing, while lumber prices are falling.
The weakening U.S. Dollar has caused the price of imported products to rise.
Meanwhile, the decreased demand for single family housing has resulted in an oversupply of native lumber products in North America.
Consequently , a building and truss system made with locally-grown Southern Yellow Pine (East Coast) or Western Hemlock (West Coast) may cost significantly less than a comparable steel truss system.
Fire Resistance
Even unpainted wood lasts longer than steel before it fails in a fire. When painted with intumescent paint, wood trusses offer superior performance in a fire, at a substantially lower cost than steel trusses.
Insulative Properties
Steel conducts heat very efficiently. A steel truss system conducts heat from your conditioned space to or from the roof membrane substantially increasing your heating and cooling costs.
Our wood truss systems have a low heat conduction rate because wood is an insulator.
Carbon Sequestration vs. Carbon Cost
Most steel is imported and requires an enormous amount of energy to refine, cast and ship. Steel has a high carbon footprint.
Wood trusses sequester carbon in the trusses themselves for the life of the building. The wood is grown locally in our region, providing local jobs and requiring far less energy to transport. Wood trusses are a net carbon sink.
Meets Code Requirements
Wood trusses are able to meet most commercial building and fire code requirements when painted with fire-resistant intumescent paint after installation.
